Van Creveld

The annual “van Creveld” keynote lecture of the Dutch Society for Thrombosis and Hemostasis (NVTH) bears the name of Simon van Creveld (1894-1971).

Van Creveld was a pediatrician and from 1938 to 1964 head of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Amsterdam. He was not only a leading clinician, but also a coagulation researcher and was essential in the identification of factor VIII as a missing factor in haemophilia A. He published more than 500 articles and in 1964 opened the world's first hemophilia clinic. Because of his pioneer work, scientific contribution and stimulating influence on his students, the annual NVTH keynote lecture bears his name.
